Ingenium has developed a laser welding machine for the seiscmic cable industri. The first machine was received by customer today!

Ingenium has developed and fabricated a Laser Welding Machine for welding PolyUrethane fairings onto seismic lead-in cables. The fairings are applied onto the lead in cables to reduce drag forces on the towed lead in cables, and hence reduce vessel fuel consumption.  Applying the fairings on will also reduce noise on the collected data. The Laser Welding Machine  is designed to weld various fairing dimensions on to seismic lead-in cables varying 28mm to 35mm outer diameter. The fairings are welded in 2,4m sections, one by one.

Ingenium Laser Welding Machine, replaces welding of fairings by manual “hot air welding”, a more time consuming and less repeatable process.

A typical setup for the Laser Welding Machine is between two drums of lead-in cable with the cable routed through the machine. The fairings are welded on to the cable in the same process as the cable is spooled from one drum to the other.

The Laser Welding Machine itself is equipped with a touch screen and can be operated by one person.
